And this sentiment applies to us too.
We want our business to be a force for good, operating at its greatest and highest potential in order to affect sustainable, positive change.
Which is why we have decided to embark on a journey to becoming a B Corp certified company. We envision this to be a lengthy process with many learnings along the way, but we are entirely convinced as a purpose-driven company to take on the challenges that expect much of us in order to make the best kind of impact on our planet.
What are B Corps?
Certified B Corporations (or B Corps) are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. Verified by B Lab, a non-profit organisation, B Corps are accelerating a global culture shift to redefine success in business and build a more inclusive and sustainable economy.
The certification was born out of the knowledge that society’s most challenging problems cannot be solved by government and non-profits alone. The B Corp community works toward reduced inequality, lower levels of poverty, a healthier environment, stronger communities, and the creation of more high quality jobs with dignity and purpose. By harnessing the power of business, B Corps use profits and growth as a means to a greater end: positive impact for their employees, communities, and the environment.
Why become one?
We aspire to be a part of the community of leaders that drives a global movement of people using business as a force for good. To be a part of a global community of over 4000 businesses would also be an incredible learning opportunity for us to continue growing in our knowledge day by day.
The values and aspirations of the B Corp community align with our own internal guiding principles and we believe that it’s important to be held accountable to ensure our words transpire into positive action.
We hope that B Corp is really just the start for Outlaw Creative, as it will hopefully open doors and ideas for us to explore how we can become increasingly more sustainable as time goes on.
During our assessment over the coming months / years, our internal operations will be scrutinised and the following areas measured for positive impact: Governance, Community, Workers, Environment, and Customers.
Governance – Our ability to protect our mission as well as our ability to formally consider our company’s stakeholders in all of our decision making.
Community – Our engagement with and impact on the communities in which we operate.
Workers – We will be evaluated on our contribution to our employees’ financial security, health & safety, wellness, career development, and engagement & satisfaction.
Environment – Our overall environmental management practices as well as our impact on the air, climate, water, land, and biodiversity.
Customers – The stewardship we take of our customers through the quality of our products and services, ethical marketing, data privacy and security, and feedback channels.
This journey we’ve embarked on will undoubtedly be one of continuous learning.
But we’re excited to share the journey with you and document our learnings for posterity.
